Psycho-oncological counseling in Hamburg – holistic, individual, empathetic

A cancer diagnosis can have far reaching affects – it often shakes up one’s entire life. Feelings like fear, despair, or helplessness are normal, but difficult to bear alone.

Psycho-oncological counseling helps to better manage emotional burdens, find new strength and navigate one’s own path with the illness – whether directly after diagnosis, during therapy or in aftercare.

Loved ones are also often under pressure. Supporting them during this time is an important part of my work.

I accompany you mindfully, resource-oriented and with the knowledge that each individual has their own pace.

What is psycho-oncological counseling?

A cancer diagnosis changes everything – not just physically, but one’s entire life. Feelings like fear, helplessness, anger or despair are common companions, as are social tensions, everyday uncertainty and the feeling of having been catapulted out of one’s own life. Psycho-oncological counseling offers a protected space to address precisely these topics openly and respectfully.

It is intended for people with cancer as well as loved ones, who are often equally burdened. The focus is not just on conversation, but on the shared search for support, clarity and inner strength. The counseling helps to regain emotional balance, activate personal resources and develop new perspectives – regardless of the stage of the illness.

Psycho-oncological couseling can be helpful in every phase: directly after diagnosis, during treatment, in aftercare or in palliative situations. It offers space for fears, but also for hope. For powerlessness, but also for new strength. Methods from talk therapy, mindfulness-based approaches or systemic counseling are integrated into the support as needed – individually tailored to the respective life situation.

The goal is not only to provide short-term relief, but also to strengthen the self-confidence and self-efficacy of those affected in the long term. Those who feel emotionally seen and supported can often better accept their illness, make informed decisions and dedicate themselves to their healing path with greater strength.

Psycho-oncological counseling is not therapy in the classical sense – it is support, a pillar and guidance. And sometimes simply an attentive counterpart who listens without judgment.

Note: Psycho-oncological counseling draws on many years of practical experience in supporting people with cancer and their families. It is intended as an additional source of emotional and holistic support and does not replace medical or psychotherapeutic treatment. While research in psycho-oncology is growing, scientific evidence for the effectiveness of supportive counseling outside the clinical setting remains limited.

Your path to greater inner stability

How a psycho-oncological session is structured

The first step is an empathetic conversation in which we jointly examine your current situation, your questions and your challenges. In a safe setting, space is created for everything that moves you – completely without pressure, entirely at your pace. Depending on your needs, elements of conversation guidance, mindfulness, visualization or structuring impulses are incorporated. There are no obligations — only options. The goal is to develop emotional relief, new clarity and empowering perspectives.

Short, solution-oriented support sessions are also possible. Many clients experience the feeling of relief after the first consultation – often, just giving voice to your thoughts helps create a first step toward clarity.
